Spiritual Warfare

Too many Christians approach spiritual warfare as though they’re locked in a desperate battle, hoping to win ground from the enemy. But let me remind you: the war has already been won. When Jesus declared, “It is finished” (John 19:30 ESV), He wasn’t speaking of a temporary truce but of an eternal victory over sin, death, and the devil.

The Enemy is Defeated

Satan’s power was crushed at the cross, and we are called not to fight FOR victory, but FROM victory. Colossians 2:15 ESV says, “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.” Christ’s triumph is final. Now, we are the occupying force in enemy territory, enforcing the victory He secured.

This is exactly what Jesus instructed us to do when He said, “Occupy until I come” (Luke 19:13 KJV). We are ambassadors of Christ sent as Heavenly agents to represent His interests in conquered territory. This means to actively take ground, stewarding His Kingdom authority and advancing His work while we wait for His return.

This changes everything about how we engage in spiritual warfare. We are not scrambling to achieve a win—we are standing firm in the victory that has already been established. Ephesians 6:13 ESV commands us, “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” Notice the focus here: stand. Our battle is not one of exercising our human strength to “beat the devil up” but rather one of standing firm in what Christ has done, not striving to accomplish what He already finished.

We don’t Fight in our own Strength

As we face attacks—discouragement, temptation, accusations—we don’t fight in our own strength. We remind the enemy of his defeat and stand confidently in our identity as victors in Christ. Revelation 12:11 ESV declares, “And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”

The blood of Jesus is enough. The war is over. Now, let’s occupy with boldness, enforcing His victory and living as those who belong to the King.

Take this to heart today: You are not a victim trying to win. You are a victor standing firm. Christ has already won the war. Now, let’s occupy with authority.
