God did not create us to be random beings drifting through life’s current. We are called to be Agents of Heavenly Influence, sent to Earth with a two-fold assignment: communion and commission. Understanding this dual mandate changes how we live, think, and operate in this world.

The Communion Assignment: Relationship with God

Our first assignment is communion. We are called to walk in deep, intimate relationship with God. This is not about religious routines or checking spiritual boxes. It is about living connected to the heart of the Father. John 15:5 (ESV) says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
Before time existed, you were known. Before you took your first breath, you were set apart. Your purpose did not start when you got saved. It was established in eternity past. Salvation was not the starting line. It was the moment God’s eternal plan was planted into your spirit. That plan did not just appear out of nowhere. It was there all along, waiting for the moment of activation.

The Commission Assignment: Fulfilling God’s Purpose on Earth

Our first assignment is communion. We are called to walk in deep, intimate relationship with God. This is not about religious routines or checking spiritual boxes. It is about living connected to the heart of the Father. John 15:5 (ESV) says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”

Salvation was not the starting line. It was the moment God’s eternal plan was planted into your spirit. That plan did not just appear out of nowhere. It was there all along, waiting for the moment of activation.

Psalm 139:16 (ESV) declares, “Your eyes saw my unformed substance. In Your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them.”

2 Timothy 1:9 (ESV) reminds us, “He saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of His own purpose and grace, which He gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.”

Before you were even born, God had a purpose for your life. Your assignment is not random; it is written in heaven’s records, waiting for you to step into it. Every opportunity, every challenge, and every place you find yourself in is not an accident. It is a Divine appointment for your calling to be carried out. Before you were even born, God had a purpose for your life. Your assignment is not random; it is written in heaven’s records, waiting for you to step into it. Every opportunity, every challenge, and every place you find yourself in is not an accident. It is a Divine appointment for your calling to be carried out. God’s calling is not based on our merit or personal ambitions, but on His eternal plan. The grace to fulfill this assignment has already been given in eternity. The question is not whether we are called, but whether we will walk in it. God did not just save you to fill a seat in church. He saved you to fulfill a destiny written in His book long before you were born. There are pages in Heaven with your name on them, assignments established in eternity waiting for your obedience on earth.

Purpose and Grace: Established Before Time Began

At salvation, God did not just rescue you from sin. He activated the Divine blueprint He wrote for you before the foundations of the world. That purpose came fully loaded with grace. Not just grace to be forgiven, but grace to walk out your assignment with authority and power.
But here is the tension. When we live from our own desires, we miss the purposes of God that were established in eternity. When we stray from the assignment we were born to fulfill, we risk spoiling our destiny and missing out on the fullness of God’s plan for our lives. Ephesians 2:10 (ESV) reminds us, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
You were created with an eternal assignment in mind. Living for your own ambitions can never satisfy the depth of purpose God has written for you. The enemy’s greatest tactic is to distract you from that assignment, convincing you to chase things that have no eternal value.
So how do we live as Agents of Heavenly Influence?
Communion Assignment: Prioritize intimacy with God. Your relationship with Him is not just the foundation. It is the source.
Commission Assignment: Recognize that you carry Heaven’s authority. You are not here to simply exist. You are sent to fulfill a mission.
Stay Rooted in Eternity: Your life is not about personal gain. It is about fulfilling the pages written in God’s will for you.
Practical Examples of Living on Assignment:
  • A Business Owner Honoring God: Running a business with integrity, refusing to cut corners, adding value to others and using profits to fund God’s work.
  • A Parent Raising Disciples: Teaching children biblical truth, praying over them daily, and raising them to know their purpose in Christ.
  • A Teacher in the Classroom: Speaking life over students, showing the love of Christ through action, and using influence to instill godly principles.
  • A Church Leader Equipping Others: Not just preaching but making disciples who step into their callings and carry out their assignments.
  • An Employee in the Workplace: Living with excellence, refusing to engage in gossip, and seeing the job as a mission field to impact lives.
  • A Believer in the Community: Serving others, standing for truth, and being a light that draws people to Christ.
You are Heaven’s ambassador, carrying both the heart of communion and the authority of commission. It is not optional. It is who you were born to be.
The Time is Now
God is not waiting for you to be perfect before He can use you. He has already equipped you. Every step of obedience moves you closer to fulfilling the destiny written in Heaven’s book for your life. Do not wait for a perfect moment. Walk boldly, knowing you’re on assignment as His representative everywhere you go. Remember that His grace is sufficient, and His purpose will stand. The world needs what God has placed specifically in you.
